Clark's Antique Wood, Inc.- Reclaimed Antique Wood Pine Flooring
Our Antique Wood Pine FlooringOld, reclaimed (salvaged) antique wood pine flooring, stair treads and stair parts, newel posts, and wide plank lumber as well as bead board (wainscoting), is our business. Antique wood pine flooring is our main product. We mill the antique pine wood and grade it as southern select or country classic - not heart pine. We are located in Marion, South Carolina, near Florence, SC and Myrtle Beach, SC. We have sold our antique pine wood flooring to many historic areas such as Hilton Head, SC, Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA. Clark’s Antique Wood, Inc. is a family-owned & operated business, founded in 1979. We recycle! Our salvaged antique wood pine flooring has been distributed in most states here in the U.S., as well as in several foreign countries. All of our antique wood- pine flooring has been reclaimed from old buildings that were from 80 to 200 years old. As opposed to new pine (which is very soft), our aged pine (although not officially categorized as hardwood floors) is much more durable than the newer wood; in addition to being much harder than new pine, this old wood pine flooring is full of character and history. When you order our ¾” thick tongue and grooved pine flooring, you just might be walking on wood that was in an old cotton mill, or possibly an old school! We operate out of a 12,000 square foot house, designed by our company’s owner, and built by him in 1996. Many of our visitors think the house is several hundred years old because it was constructed primarily from old materials that Clark salvaged from old buildings that he took down over a period of more than 15 years. The authentic old glass that is now our window panes was stored for years in the feed troughs of a barn! We are proud of our company and of the fact that we deal with people with honesty and fairness only. If a sales representative in our company gives you information about our antique pine (often referred to as heart pine), you never need to wonder if you’ve been misled … we never misrepresent our product, nor our company. Although others grade their old wood by knot content, heart content, etc., we grade ours by age (the older pine is harder and denser). Whereas, others charge as high as $15.00 per square foot for tongue & groove hardwood flooring, our prices start at $4.00 per square foot. We inform every customer that you can save money if you select random width for your pine flooring (we sell in random length also). If you specify your width, the price goes up. If you use boards wider than 7”, we recommend that you face-nail your pine flooring, as well as tongue-nail it. (Over time the wider boards will bow or cup.) We suggest you pick up or have it delivered well enough in advance to stack the pine wood flooring in the environment where you’re going to install it for a week before installation. This allows the old antique pine to acclimate to that environment. We monitor the moisture content, checking every board that goes out with moisture meters, to ensure a moisture content of between 6% and 12%. The patina of the aged pine will vary. Each board you use can look completely unique. Often, one board will have several different colors woven throughout it. The variety of the color and appearance is a big part of the appeal and beauty of this old pine flooring. Whether you prefer wide plank, all narrow boards, or a mixture of different widths…whether the “look” you’re seeking is country, rustic, distressed, vintage, or more modern or formal, we’d like to help you with your choices. Included in our antique pine flooring selections are Naily (lots of nail holes, for additional character), and Oily (from old cotton mills, where over time, the wood has absorbed cotton seed oil). At the present time, we do not usually offer oak, chestnut, cedar, cypress, hickory, maple, walnut, poplar, or other woods (the antique pine is our passion!). In addition to our gorgeous pine flooring, other products we make from the old pine include bead board (wainscoting), rough thin siding, stair parts (including treads, risers, handrails, landing nose / bull nose, newel posts), and occasionally we find the time to build some furniture. We offer newel posts, made from beams of the old pine wood, and our turned newels are hand turned. Our newels and treads are handcrafted, not assembly line produced.
